Excitingly, buying those You Create kits during the Mattel Reveal event paid off and my kits have actually arrived already! The website said they wouldn't ship until April 4 but I guess Mattel was just playing with me, silly Mattel. I was thrilled when these arrived the other day, so I thought I better get started writing with kit #1. These girls are left to right giving too pretty to care, working 9-5 but ran out of hairspray and starting to lean from having too many mimosas.

I guess I'll start with the craziest wig and sculpt of the three, the long blonde carpet of curls that makes me think of a country star in the '80's hair, only it's really frizzy. Of my 3 wigs this one did not like staying on the doll's heads. It is impressive though, like a big Greek building. I knew I was going to give it to sculpt #3 before I got these girls. She looked so cartoonish to me in the promo picks with her huge blue eyes and freckles, I thought she would need an impressive wig backing her up like the Dolly wig. But once she got here, while I still find her somewhat cartoonish, there is something more compelling about her than I thought. Since she had the biggest features, I decided to give her the curvy body, and that's one of my favorite bodies. I was surprised I ended up giving it to her as she was my least favorite sculpt, but I felt like it gave her more power once I tried her on it, and I couldn't change her off of it. Dolls are weird that way sometimes, they just give you a feeling. With these dolls I got a lot of those feelings, and I just went with them, for me that's kind of what they are all about.

This girl for me is the prettiest of the three, as someone on Reddit pointed out she kind of resembles Cher. But what takes her over the top is her eyeshadow and eyelashes. Girl is fresh and feminine. I love her. And so I gifted her the one pair of earrings in the kit which is a pair of beautiful silver chunky hoops which are great only question where the heck are the other two pair for the other two dolls for 100 bucks Mattel? The other two accessories are an ok pair of sunglasses and a cheap looking necklace, but that is inconsequential as both of those accessories come long after earrings.

This girl is so beautiful she took my breath away, well not really but somebody took her cheeks away because after her cheekbones it's a dead drop to jawbone and it's gorgeous. I don't know who she looks like, but it's somebody famous, I think. The red wig is really easy to use and stays on pretty well, much better than the Dolly wig. It looks wiggy most of the time, but I think it's really pretty. Actually, the red and dark brown wigs are really soft and shiny, I like them both.

In the end I put #2 (a.k.a Mrs. Cheekbones) in the darkest wig because she's so gorgeous she can pull off a hime cut (yuck!) which is unfortunately the way the dark wig is cut. A bob in the front, long in the back, what drunken angry hairdresser came up with that? Incidentally she's wearing the body suit in this pic, which looks just like a funky bathing suit to the novice eye (a.k.a. me).

I must say when I saw these clear thigh high boots in the promo pictures, I did think to myself "Now how's that gonna work?" but I withheld judgement until I had them in hand. Now that I have them in my little hands, I can only conclude that indeed it doesn't work. In fact, it doesn't work at all. For some reason I have a heck of a time getting all of their feet out of them for starters, and not only that but what are we trying to do with the crinkly effect on 3/4 of the boot? Is that supposed to indicate fabric? Clear wrinkled up fabric? I've never owned any clothing item like that, certainly not boots. Unfortunately, my imagination is coming up empty when trying to supply me with a real-life image of what these might look like and therefore, I can't imagine them for my doll either so they're not really much fun.

This is a picture of the other pair of shoes, there really isn't a pair here for the petite doll body, but this is the pair I got to stay on her the best even though they were gigantic on her feet. I ended up putting these on the curvy doll and they looked great. This was the kit that came with the little black pumps that have the B from the Barbie logo incorporated into the heel of the pump, but one fell off the foot of my petite Barbie as I was transferring her from my lap to the table beside me. I sent out riders, we hope to hear before next frost.

I did try the hime wig (yuck!) on my favorite girl and she actually made it look good, which even Cher could famously do so I should have expected as much. She's wearing the fanciest top here, a tube top with connected mesh sleeves with ruffled hems, very pretty.

I decided to keep my favorite wig on my favorite Cher face, and I think she looks damn good. I also decided to keep her on the tall body, since her face is the longest and I can't abide that little petite body - nothing fits it.

So this is the way I've left them for now. I should bring in Kit, or doll #1 from the just released Basics line as her skin tone matches these girls and I really thought I would. But I've got my Kit dressed in a little business suit and her original outfit was the t-shirt dress which I consider worthless anyway. So, apathy. But if you've got Kit and you order these girls, kit#1, you can make her part of the crew with her interchangeable head and regular size made to move body and have a grand old time.

Ultimately the best part about playing with this set was just being myself, I can be a stick in the mud sometimes and I did feel like each girl was destined for one outfit and one wig etc. But that's fine. It was fun making the fashion choices as I wished and just letting my gut guide me completely with no one to please but myself. That part felt definitely therapeutic. This is certainly a new way to own and display Barbies, and I'm for sure impressed with Kit Number One.
