Well, what's all this hub bub?
Well, what's all this hub bub?

This Imogen Lennox came to me with a whole bunch of pre-conceived opinions and ideas already attached to her because of all the media I have consumed about her in advance. It makes me very cautious when approaching her to remain fair and neutral when I evaluate how she affects my inner doll lady. This doll was a huge success in the dolly world according to everything I've seen and read. I haven't seen anything critical of her at all really aside from the usual complaints about how hard getting her boots and certain other articles of clothing on is, or jewelry being a pain in the neck to work with. The consensus seems to be that she is gorgeous in sculpt, screening, and risky hairstyle as well which is a very difficult thing for IT to pull off with their customers, a rare trifecta of satisfaction. The problem I fear is not what you might expect, i.e. that I'd get caught up in the enthusiasm for her. You see I have quite the opposite problem with popular fare sometimes. I tend to dislike it because of what I can only conclude after all my years of trying to deny it, is most likely just a basic cliched desire to be contrary. To simplify it, Pearl Jam was my favorite band in middle school, but when I got to high school and saw how popular they were I found that I just couldn't like them anymore and started listening to Nirvana. I'm not saying it's an admirable quality or something I'm proud of, I realize that it's lame. But it's something I reflexively feel. And part of me still reflexively feels embarrassed for others when they put on a Pearl Jam song at a party, because they don't know that's not cool.

But Imogen is too beautiful of a doll to be USED that way, for my own unresolved high school insecurities, and with her simple aloof expression and by acting like an uninterested popular girl, she won me over. Incidentally, Imogen's lips are beautifully lined, although it's not really showing up in most amateur pics that I've seen. It definitely showed in the promo pics, but I have to look with my very expensive high tech spy gear (aka flashlight/magnifying glass) to see it in person. Her lips are still cool though compared to other IT dolls I've seen recently because she topped off her lip color with a nice shiny lip gloss, which I used to do back when I was young and adorable and I think the young adorable girls still do. So sweet.

I will always cherish you, Madonna.
I will always cherish you, Madonna.

First of all, I must say this next shot reminds me of the "Like a Prayer" album cover by Madonna so much, Madonna's flat stomach with all the gold and silver jewelry and her li'l baby blue top-unbuttoned jeans, I will always adore Madonna.

A silver and baby blue party.

I adore this look too, it's so busy but feminine and somehow effortless all in one. It reminded me that silver and baby blue are two of my favorite colors and they happen to mix together in an incredibly pretty and feminine way. This girl comes with 5 bracelets, 3 bangle-ey ones with little blue stones, a thick silver cuff, and a stacked bracelet moment. She has 2 rings, the one pictured above that goes with her big round moonstone earrings and another blue one that goes with her blue stone earrings. This is the silver belt that she comes in, the set includes a black belt as well but between those metallic little daisies, the metallic mesh of the skirt itself, and the belt loops I am pretty sure that it would be ripped up pretty quickly by me if I tried to remove and replace the belts. I'm happy with silver.

The tank top was a trial

For me, the hardest thing to put on Imogen was her mesh metal daisy tank top. Holy mother in heaven! This garment is unreasonable. I watched a video, but honestly the guy in the video was having a hell of a time too so I just left the very top latch undone and attached the 2 lowest hook and loops. It looks great. I had no problem with the boots so I guess you win some you lose some.

Little Blue, does she have a soul?
Little Blue, does she have a soul?

I was excited about this doll's Mary Jane shoes. Of course, recurring theme here if you haven't picked up on it yet, I wore them as a child as most likely every little girl did in the west who lived in the past 100 or so years, maybe longer. I don't know if these are strictly Mary Janes but they are black patent leather with buckles and little windows showing the white sock underneath so I'm going with Mary Janes. The problem when you try to do shoes like these on a flat foot is that they tend to look larger than scale, and they do look just a bit clunky on Imogen, but it's not that alarming and they are just so charming you have to overlook it! This is a nice picture of Blue, Imogen's baby kitten. You can see in this photo that Blue has no pupils and therefore no soul so she's probably planning on eating Imogen's later. Watch out, Imogen!

Something's missing...
Something's missing...

One of the first things I did upon opening the package, was to take out the designer Jessy Ayala's innovative new scarf for Imogen. I had seen and remembered it from back in the promotional video all the way back in August and I am always very pro-anything that eliminates those darn hook and loop closures that I actively campaign against! But sadly, when given a new option, my shaky hands and slowed reflexes did not rise to the occasion. I flubbed the whole thing and dropped the magnet that was meant to go inside poor Imogen's collar, and I have been combing the floor with a kitchen magnet but cannot find it. I could point out here the fact that said magnet was about the size of a human egg, as in microscopic, and that did perhaps make it highly likely that something was going to go wrong with installation for a collector like me. I might further point out that this issue could be easily fixed at the factory level by sewing that little, microscopic egg magnet into the doll's collar, so all we collectors need do is click the attractive scarf into place. However, to be fair, I must say I've seen many pictures of pretty Imogen with her playful scarf attached no problem so I can only conclude that this is most likely a "me" problem.

Her shades and the baby blue ring.

The hair is another triumph of hair gel! Or hair glue maybe I don't know what they are using down there at the Integrity Toys factory, but Imogen's got another wind-proof, day at the beach proof, day at the hurricane proof tight little hairdo. I've seen pictures of this doll after people have washed out all the gel and she does look pretty and soft, but her hair is usually way longer on one side than the other and definitely needs to be trimmed. You know me reader, I'll be keeping it just like this, it looks pretty and sweet as it is, and my hair-do talent well is dry as always.

She exudes calm confidence.
She exudes calm confidence.

Imogen's purse is shiny silver, and oblong like a baguette, but it's not a baguette. I don't really know what era it's from, I think it's either modern or it is its own thing, but it doesn't really scream 70's or 60's to me. I'm not sure but it's definitely the right purse for lipsticks, tampons, business envelopes, rectangular things. If you've got a round powder compact, or some tissues, or keys, or any other non-oblong items, this is not the purse.

She's also a baby blue underwear model.

In the end, a good doll or band will always win you over. Imogen is that good doll. I ended up loving her in spite of myself, I overcame my... opposite of FOMO every time I glanced over at her, she wore me down bit by bit. Sometimes popular opinion may be something that it's difficult to join in with for whatever reason, but sometimes when everyone is saying something is great it is because that thing simply is great. Some good things are so good they're really not all that subjective, and that's Baby Blue. If you are a doll lover, you will love her.
